AuraNet Galactic Life Interview
Interview by Taren Malinas, Stardate 59109 (2/4/2382)

MalinasHello, Kionna… or is it Shemira?  I’ve never interviewed an El-Aurian before.

Shemira: It’s common practice now to actually to refer to El-Aurians by their last name.  This particular tradition didn’t start until after the Borg destroyed El-Auria and scattered our people throughout the galaxy.  It’s our way of preserving our family names.  However, if two from the same family are in the same room with you, you should refer to them by their given name.  I’m not pretentious enough to care either way.  Kionna is fine.

MalinasInteresting.  I tried to research the topic and noticed that most El-Aurians have been referred to by their last names, but other sources contradict the same.

Shemira: (chuckles softly) Of course, how else can we create such mysticism involving our people? (She grins widely.)

MalinasYou’ve been part of the conscious universe now for over seven hundred years.  What kind of changes have you seen in your lifetime?

Shemira: That’s definitely a broad question, and it’d take me quite a long time to answer.  Did you have anything specific in mind?

MalinasI suppose it is.  Specific to the Federation?

Shemira: The Federation. (She smiles, her eyes twinkling.)  I remember when the Federation didn’t exist, as a matter of fact.  I was in Paris when the original Articles were signed in 2161.  Honestly, I was surprised.  It wasn’t necessarily a surprise that Humans managed to evolve to such a point that they were seeking peace in the Galaxy.  No, it was the fact that I didn’t expect the Tellarites , Andorians, and Vulcans to agree to peace.

In the beginning, the Federation was cocky, I hate to admit, and it got them into a lot of trouble.  It really wasn’t until this last century that they started to really take the Prime Directive with the utmost sincerity.  Myself and my compatriots have upheld a similar principle since our arrival in this Quadrant.  Admittedly, we’ve broken it a few times, but not in such a way that it was noticeable to those involved. (She steeples her fingers together and places them on her lap, smiling warmly.)

MalinasHave you ever heard of Section 31?

Shemira: (She grins slowly.) Why whatever do you mean?  Is that a new colonization project?

MalinasIt’s rumored to be a covert autonomous organization looking out for Federation Interests regardless of the costs.

Shemira: Aren’t we all doing that?

MalinasSo, you’re not part of that group?

Shemira: I have no personal agenda, Taren.

Malinas(Laughs softly.) You’re not going to answer the question, are you?

Shemira: Twelve. (She winks.)

MalinasI’ll take that as a no.  So, where were you during the Dominion Wars?  I believe your Shipyards are stationed in the Betazed sector, but it was understood that the Dominion occupied that area prior to the Romulan Empire entering the war.

Shemira: I was involved in some projects with members of the Klingon High Council.  I’d think you’d be aware that El-Aurian technology is incomparable to current Alpha Quadrant technology, and we can move the entire Shipyards to where we like.  During that time we were building some projects for Klingons and chose to keep the docks in Klingon space.  If we’d been in the Betazed sector when the Dominion rolled in, it’d have been unpleasant for them.  As to why we didn’t intervene, are you sure we didn’t?

MalinasIt would stand to reason that since the territory was occupied, and many died at their hands, that you didn’t.

Shemira: (Openly laughs.) If you truly wish to believe that, you’re more than welcome to do so.

Malinas(Questioning.) Are you sure you don’t know anything about Section 31?  Some of your answers seem to indicate you know and/or do things that many would not have the knowledge of.

Shemira: As far as I know, Starfleet denies it exists, so it mustn’t.  As far as my tone, you need to recall that El-Aurians have mental abilities that surpass most known species.  Also, you quickly forget I am seven hundred and thirty-five years old and have degrees in Exo-Religion and Philosophy.  I simply know what I know.

MalinasAll right, I believe you.  Anything about your personal life you’re willing to share?

Shemira: Sure.  I’m married to my long-term Trill companion Kucas.  Kucas has been through several hosts in the last few hundred years, however, the current one I expect to live much longer with my genetics background combined with metagenic energy, she should live at least five hundred years.

MalinasShe? What about children?

Shemira: Absolutely. Aria Kucas. Actually, the last two hosts were also female.  El-Aurians as a general rule don’t care what gender a person is when looking for a long-term relationship.  It’s rare when we do have children, and it’s just as easy to use genetics to do so.  We are looking forward to having a child again.  The two we have are a little over two hundred years old.  I made a committment to Kucas almost 350 years ago and have no intention of breaking it.

MalinasWow, that’s dedication. When’s the 350th anniversary?

Shemira: July 1, 2382, or Stardate 59510.

MalinasCongratulations.  Please give her my best.  Not to rush, but lets move on.  What’s your view on the Klingon Empire?

Shemira: Well, they suffered a lot of losses during the Dominion War, and had a change of leadership that is probably for the better in the overall scheme of things.  I look for a stronger peace alliance between the Klingons and the Federation within a few years.

MalinasAnd the Romulan Empire?

Shemira: The Shinzon and Reman incident brought them and the Federation closer than they’ve ever been.  While I don’t particularly expect any type of full alliance in the near future, I do see formal diplomatic relations being opened up due to Picard and the valiant Enterprise crew.  I’m going to miss Data.

MalinasLast question.  What do you feel you give to the Alpha Quadrant that is unique?

Shemira: Excellent question.  I’d have to say that our technology makes lives for the average galactic citizen to live a more comfortable and safe life.  May everything you behold be filled with wonder and love.
